Tracking the growth in foreign-born populations June 8, 2006

Outside of the world of SSI, there's a lot of great research and events taking place.

Case in point: The Chicago Fed ran some fascinating numbers on the size and growth of non-native populations in the Great Lakes states. Here's one graphical example, with many more on their great blog:

The growth and increasing dependence of these states on foreign-born residents paints the current immigration debate in a very, very serious light. Let's hopew that our government leaders consider the totalilty of the question regarding immigration.  Going in the wrong direction could have a chilling impact on both the domestic economy and the workforce that underpins it.
