Are IT workers white collar or blue collar? November 9, 2006

Now, there’s an interesting question to ponder…

…one that could drastically affect how we look at workforce development.  The one element that I don’t think that the author takes into account is the current move toward outsourcing IT overseas.  If I can procure my technology knowledge workers as a commodity, does that degrade the incumbent IT workers – perhaps making them less valuable in management’s eyes?  And what of the potential/untapped creative/innovative capacity of incumbent IT workers?

Lots of loose ends to tie up on this one.  But, most definitely, thought provoking.
